A Brief History of
How the Chapter Got Started
Chapter-J was first formed on June 1, 1984, by Rick Kattreh in Manitowoc. It started with 16 members and 10 associates. The chapter was inactive for sometime after Rick quit. Then in 1990, Chuck Multhauf restarted the chapter, on January 13th. A chapter banner was also then created. In 1991, a new banner was created by Jan Van Der
Vaart and then replaced once again in 2001.
The chapter logo, first created in 1984, was a rounded rectangle with "1000" Gold Wing on a yellow state of Wisconsin, the chapter area in red. Background, tan with black border and nick name Tri County Touring Wings in black. The GWRRA logo in red at the bottom. The current patch is a gold and red eagle holding a J on a shield. Round with white background and red border. The GWRRA Wisconsin in black and Lake To Lake Wings in black.
Chapter J is now in it's 20th year, and going strong. It is currently based out of Sheboygan,
Manitowoc & Calumet Counties. There are now approximately 139 members, as of
August 2001.
We have had many fundraisers through out the years. They consisted of poker runs, brat frys, and road kills.
There were several fundraisers that we held jointly in conjunction with Chapter E.
For the last several years the chapter has decided to concentrate it's
fundraising efforts by holding public brat frys. In this way we hope to
raise public awareness of our chapter as well as bring in new members - after
all we are always looking to share our riding experiences with others. Every year, we have ice cream runs, dinner rides, sweetheart weekends, Halloween party's, Christmas party's, and picnics.
Also a camp out now and then. Lets not forget always working on our Wisconsin Tour Books!
The Chapter has also received many awards honoring staff members, special thank you awards, best dressed chapter award in 1994 from Michigan District Rally. A special award went to Milton Bartz for the chapter cookie contest in 1996. (You know how GWRRA members like to eat.)
We've attended many rallys since 1990, Manitowoc, Sparta, Fond
Du Lac, Tomah, to name a few. Come rain or shine, Chapter-J was there.
